Low Velds region has many tourist attractions like...
- Waterfalls: The Mpumalanga escarpment has many spectacular waterfalls -- visit the Lone Creek, Mac-Mac, Maria Shires, Forest, Bridal Veil and Horse Shoe waterfalls.
- Kruger National Park's New Frontier Backpackers Lodge is only 60 km from Kruger National Park's Numbi entrance gate. A top tourist attraction and home to the Big 5 ( elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) and many other animals, It has an excellent visitor facilities,licensed restaurants, shops, swimming pools and conference venues. Many people prefer the lush vegetation of summer with summer rainfall and temperatures. The Malelane, Crocodile Bridge, Numbi and Paul Kruger gate to the park can be easily accessed from Nelspruit.
- Barberton developed after the discovery of gold in the area in 1884. Deppite the exodus of disappointed fortune seekers in 1888, there are still many reminders of the early gold rush days.
- The Tswaing Crater is a crater that was formed by a meteorite crashing into the velds, creating a circular crater 2/3 of a mile across about 200,000 years ago.
- Thabana Ntlenyana is the highest mountain in southern Africa at 11,425 feet tall.
- the Drakensberg Mountains are a long chain of rocky mountains snaking along for 625 miles along the eastern edge of the veld.
- Giant's Castle is a spectacular jagged ridge in Lesotho formed from volcanic rock.
- The Panorama escapement is a striking rock formation with a rich diversity of plants and animals. Bourke's Luck Potholes (deep cylindrical cavities) formed by river erosion and the action of flood water are also found in this region.
- Graskop is at 1490m above sea level the sky is blue and smog free --just like Switzerland's wooden huts, fire places, mountains, and pine trees.
- Lowveld National Botanical Garden on the banks of the Crocodile River is Lowveld's greatest tourist attraction with the most magnificent botanical gardens with waterfall and rare Lowveld animals. The turnoff to the garden is situated on the R40 to White River, about 3km from the centre of Nelspruit.
